In 2009 the SARU abandoned the then West End Trophy. Instead of it being
awarded on the basis of how many teams fielded, how many coaches put through
training, how many state players a club puts up, etc etc, the new trophy was
awarded purely on the total of premiership points earned by each club’s senior
squads (but including the 18s and with the first Div points counting double).
That is, they add up a club's premiership points for 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, 18s and
Women. The Junior club was not to be taken into account, other than the 18s, the
'Colts'.
