Announcements about the 75th Anniversary Celebrations!
... and afterwards, Christmas drinks, nibbles and carols

The Club’s Annual General Meeting was held on Thursday 1st
December in the clubrooms.
- Cyril Campion was made a Life Member!
- New Honour Boards and the 75th Anniversary plans unveiled, as well as some
other exciting developments
- The 2011 Committee was returned with only a few exceptions. Simon Allport
retires as Registrar (but remains on the Committee). Elena Casciano retires
from Newsletter Editor, and she and Jane Wright both retire from the Committee
(but will continue to contribute in other ways), while Richard Waddicor and
Paul Reynolds join the Committee as Registrar and Assistant Secretary
respectively. And Danni Di Girolamo
is our new Social Director!
The First and Second teams of the Joondalup Brothers are Minor
Premiers this year 2011 and both won their respective Preliminary Finals
putting them in the Major Finals.
Sadly it was following these games and after the post match celebrations that
one of their First team players, Tamati Timoko (T as he is fondly known) was
viciously and cowardly attacked by a gang who savagely beat him and put him in
a coma. The assault was so severe that it is not known if he will recover the
sight of his left eye.
The assault made news headlines with articles televised and published in the
press.
Tamati is 27 and is due to be married in November; he's got a six month old
daughter and is one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet. It is not in
T's nature to look for trouble and it was an unprovoked attack as he walked
home.
The club formed a fund raising committee and hosted a fundraiser for T on
September 25th.
It consisted of a family fun day involving both junior and senior players with
the highlight of the day being a Maori Brothers XV v Rest of the World
Brothers XV.
The senior players donated money to secure a place in the team and each player
was presented with a shirt that had been kindly donated by Rugby Clubs from
around the world.
Collegians' donated a shirt which was worn by the player in the picture below.

From Old Collegians to a new
super force
by: Warren Partland
From: The Advertiser September 24, 2011 12:30AM

TRIUMPHANT Queensland Reds flanker Liam Gill has
defended Wallabies captain James Horwill.
Horwill's leadership during Australia's shock loss to
Ireland in the World Cup in New Zealand was criticised.
Gill described Horwill, who led the Reds to Super glory in
July, as a great captain and said the criticism was a "bit
unfair".
"It is a hard ask stepping in for the World Cup and having such
expectations on your shoulders," said Gill, who began his rugby career
with Old Collegians and was in Adelaide yesterday to show off the Super
trophy.
"James was the link for all things rugby - he deals
with the board, the players association. I cannot speak highly enough of
what he has done for the Reds."
Gill said it was "hard" watching the match against Ireland and the
loss of injured flanker David Pocock on the eve of the game was a massive
blow.
A former member of the national sevens team, Gill said the defeat had made
life difficult for the Wallabies but he was still confident they could claim
a third world title. "Having South Africa in the quarter-finals
followed by NZ is a tri-nations set-up and the Wallabies do that every
year," Gill said yesterday.
The emergence of Gill as a sevens international and now a
Super representative with the Reds is evidence players can use South
Australia as a platform to build a successful career. And watching his Reds
team-mates perform on rugby's biggest stage has fuelled his confidence.
"Going back to Old Collegians, watching the SA team train and letting
them know that is where my career began - it shows it can be a building
block and you can make it from here," Gill said.
The South Australia U20 Junior Falcons State Team was
announced today. Congratulations to the 7 Old Colls' lads who made the
squad:
Ben Blackall, George Bretag-Norris, Bernie Van Altena, Alex McCloud, Soshi Eto,
Jack Darby, Chris Bartlett.
The Junior Falcons will be headed to Melbourne on 6th October for a two-match
tour against Endeavour Hills RFC and Box Hill RFC.

For the past six years I've been extracting the results &
league tables for each week and putting them into a spreadsheet, week by week,
for the results & the league tables, and also posting the results and the
league tables for the week onto their respective webpages. It took some
time each week because the SARU format isn't an easy one to get around.
For one year I had the league tables & results on the front page, but
no-one much liked that.
It also seems that no-one refers to the results' or league tables' spreadsheet
or webpages, but instead goes to the SARU results on the SARU website.
So this year I decided not to do it each week and see if anyone
complained. No-one has. But if you had been using it, and miss it,
let me know. Otherwise refer to the SARU website.

Hey Guys
Saw this in the Fiji Times last week.
Noticed the ground immediately before even knowing what was going on. The
following day was a cartoon.
Henry Nutt will love it !
The Fijians love the Aussies, especially their style of play

Henry Nutts, with baseball cap, ready to pack down a
scrum.
HENRY Nutts could not believe it when Digicel Fiji team
manager asked him to join them in a training run at the Old Collegians ground
yesterday. The Old Collegians First XV captain was at the ground with few of
his mates for a run when Waqa called him to join up and make the numbers.
Nutts said he was a bit surprised but tried his best. "I
did not even believe I would be given an opportunity to have a run with the
Fijian sevens team," Nutts revealed to Times Sport.
"I tried to do everything right as I didnt want to let them down even
though they were just having a run."
"I loved every minute of it and I will always remember this."
Nutts said he wished the team well in this weekend's
tournament and will be there to cheer for them.
"I'm a rugby development officer here in Adelaide and I will be at the
Adelaide Oval on Saturday to cheer the Fiji boys on. I hope they do well this
weekend."
Digicel Fiji sevens coach Iliesa Tanivula later told Nutts that they had a
Fiji shirt which they would give him as a token of thanks.
Old Collegians Rugby Club has a proud association with Fiji
rugby as it was where former Fiji Under-20 rep to the 2010 Junior World
Championship, Alex Rokobaro started his rugby.

Selected for the state training squad:
